About Teso la Monja

Teso La Monja is a prestigious winery located in the Toro DOC of Castilla y León, Spain, founded in 2007 by Marcos and Miguel Ángel Eguren, members of the historic Eguren winemaking family from Rioja Alavesa. After shaping the modern reputation of Toro with their previous project, Bodegas Numanthia, the Egurens established Teso La Monja to focus on the elegance and expressive potential of the native Tinta de Toro grape. The winery remains family-owned, with the next generation, including Eduardo Eguren, actively involved in vineyard management and winemaking.

The estate prioritizes low-yielding, carefully selected vineyards, hand harvesting, and meticulous vinification techniques to produce wines that balance power with finesse. Their portfolio spans approachable wines such as Románico and Almirez, as well as flagship bottlings like Victorino, Alabaster, and the eponymous Teso La Monja. These wines are crafted exclusively from Tinta de Toro, typically aged in French oak, and are celebrated for their intensity, structure, and refined fruit character.

Teso La Monja has earned a reputation for combining the strength and depth typical of Toro with elegance and aging potential. The winery embodies a philosophy of terroir-driven winemaking and innovation, maintaining the Eguren family’s commitment to excellence while highlighting the distinctive qualities of one of Spain’s most historic wine regions.
