About Valdaya
Nestled in the heart of Spain's Ribera del Duero DO, Bodegas Valdaya is a boutique, family-owned winery renowned for its meticulous, terroir-driven approach to winemaking. Founded in 2005 by Elena López and Joaquín González, the estate was revitalized in 2013 under the guidance of winemakers Marta Ramas and Miguel Fisac, who introduced a philosophy centered on micro-vinifications and minimal intervention. Their commitment to expressing the unique character of each vineyard plot has garnered Valdaya recognition among critics and connoisseurs alike.
The estate's vineyards are situated at elevations around 900 meters in Sotillo de la Ribera, Burgos, where old bush-vine Tempranillo (locally known as Tinta del País) thrives. These low-yielding vines, aged between 50 and 80 years, produce fruit that is hand-harvested and fermented with natural yeasts. Winemaking practices are traditional yet precise, with fermentation occurring in oak barrels and aging in fine-grained French oak, sometimes complemented by concrete vessels to enhance texture and expression.
Valdaya's portfolio includes two primary lines: the elegant and expressive Valdaya, and the more complex and structured Valdaya Mirum. Both lines showcase the estate's dedication to quality and authenticity, offering wines that reflect the essence of their unique terroir. With a focus on purity, finesse, and longevity, Valdaya continues to be a standout producer in Ribera del Duero, appealing to those seeking wines of depth and character.
