Venus La Universal

Venus La Universal is a boutique winery based in the Montsant DO in Catalonia, Spain, near Falset. Established in 1999 by acclaimed winemakers Sara Pérez and René Barbier, the project reflects a shared vision of producing wines that express both place and personality, distinct from their work in neighbouring Priorat.

The estate farms a small area of vineyards, managed according to organic principles, with a strong emphasis on soil health and biodiversity. The focus is on indigenous Mediterranean varieties, including Garnacha and Cariñena for reds, alongside Macabeu and Xarel·lo for whites. Winemaking is gentle and low-intervention, allowing the character of each vintage and vineyard site to emerge naturally.

Venus La Universal produces a concise range of wines, notably the “Venus” and “Dido” labels. These wines are recognised for their finesse, balance, and freshness, offering a nuanced and expressive interpretation of Montsant terroir with an elegant, contemporary style.
