Product Notes

Henschke Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium Australian wine that requires no introduction. It is the flagship wine of the iconic Henschke family who have been producing exceptional wines for six generations. This full-bodied, rich and complex wine carries the lineage of the Henschke dynasty, and is named after the patriarch of the family, Cyril Henschke. The wine is made from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, carefully selected from the Eden Valley vineyards, and aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months. The result is a wine with intense aromas of blackcurrant, dark chocolate and vanilla, that tantalizes the palate with intense fruit flavors and a lingering finish. It is an iconic wine for any collector, and is sure to impress even the most discerning wine connoisseur.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby with garnet hues. Lovely complex aromas of cassis, red currant and mulberry interwoven with anise, oregano, thyme, violets and tobacco leaf. The palate delivers layers of vibrant and pure black currant and plum, balanced by hints of cedar and vanilla pod. Lively acidity and fine-grained tannins provide a long, defined, mouth-coating finish.

About the Winery

Henschke

Located in the South Australian region of Keyneton, Henschke Wines is a 151-year old family-owned wine brand. It is one of the most popular wines crafted in Australia’s reputed wine areas of Eden Valley. It all started when the founder of the Henschke brand, Johann Christian Henschke planted the first vine in the vineyards of Keyneton during 1862.

The grapes for Henschke wines are sourced from three main regions – Eden Valley, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.

Eden Valley - Established in 1866, Eden Valley is the most important wine region for Henschke Wines as two of the brand’s iconic vineyards, Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone, are located here.  The Hill of Grace wine, crafted using Shiraz grapes, is the flagship wine of this brand. It is not surprising that this wine went on to become one of the cult and best ever wines produced in Australia in a very short time.

The sandy loam soil covered with clay-weathered subsoils, dry viticultural practices followed and the hilly climate makes it ideal for cultivating varietals such as Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Barbera and Muscat Blanc.

Barossa Valley - Located at the backdrop of the Barossa range, this region extends from Truro to Williamstown. It was established during 1842. You will find diverse quality of soils here – brown clay, reddish brown earthy soil and yellow sandy soils. The Henschke brand sources the Mataro grape varietal from the Mataro Mass Selection Block vineyard located here.

Adelaide Hills - Stretching to a distance of about 70km, the Adelaide Hills region was set up during 1839. The place enjoys a cool but moderate maritime climate, and contains sandy loam soil. These conditions make it ideal for cultivating the Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals.
