La Guita

The history of the Spanish winery of La Guita dates back to as early as 1852. Domingo Perez Marin founded this winery during this year in the small town of Sanlucar de Barrameda in Spain. During that time, this winery was established in Bodegas Hijos de Rainera Perez Marin. Guita, in the old Andalusian accent, refers to cash.

The vineyard of Sanlucar de Barrameda is a very popular and historic site. It dates back to the Roman site. This was the very place where Columbus started his sail in 1498. You might be surprised to know that many decades later, this was the same location from Ferdinand Magellan set out on his exploration to prove that world is spherical. Located at the northernmost tip of the Sherry triangle, this vineyard’s location can be found on the banks of the Guadalquivir River in the province of Cadiz of Southwest Spain.

La Guita is the only place, where Manzanilla is produced exclusively in the Pago Miraflores vineyard. This place is known for its Albariza Superior soils, which is considered as the highest quality of soils by the DO Sherry Regulatory Board. The mineral content is Manzanilla produced in this region is so high, that it is impossible to find the same quality elsewhere. One of the main highlights of La Guita is that it was the first winery in Spain to print the bottling date on its labels.
