Tasting Note

A fuller style of Pinot Gris, originally influenced by the style of wines from Alsace and developed over the years into Ata Rangi's own, uniquely Martinborough style. Fragrant aromas of fresh pear, lychee and citrus blend with perfumed notes of rose, jasmine and citronella on the nose. The palate opens with spicy notes of nutmeg and ground ginger. It is a textural wine with balance, beautiful fresh acidity and a long, complex finish.

Product Notes

The Ata Rangi Martinborough Pinot Gris is a delightfully rich and complex wine that beautifully showcases the unique flavor profile of Martinborough's terroir. The wine exudes a pale, straw-like color with an elegant aroma of green apple, pear, and white peach. The crisp and dry palate holds flavors of melon, pear, and subtle citrus notes, which delivers a distinctiveness and appeal on its own or paired with an array of exotic dishes. The mineral character of this wine is notable, with a well-balanced acidity, and a delightful finish that lingers pleasantly on the palate. Overall, Ata Rangi Lismore Martinborough Pinot Gris is a sublime expression of a New Zealand Pinot Gris, crafted with finesse and care that epitomizes the winemaking artistry of Ata Rangi.

About the Winery

Ata Rangi

In the local dialect of New Zealand, Ata Rangi means “new beginning.” That’s exactly what Clive Paton had in mind when he established the Ata Rangi wine brand in the year 1980, in the small village of Martinborough.  Soon, he went on to become one of the pioneer winemakers not only in this village but in New Zealand.  Along with his wife and expert team of winemakers, Paton ensures that he crafts exotic wines, even as he goes by his principle of minimum intervention.
