Product Notes

Tohu Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing and lively wine, perfect for a summer day or a cheerful evening with friends. It is made from grapes cultivated on the stunning coastal region of Marlborough, New Zealand. The nose is filled with intense, fruity aromas of passion fruit, gooseberry, and citrus, complemented by delicate floral hints. On the palate, it's crisp and zesty with bright acidity and a long, mineral finish of green apple and lemon zest. This delicious Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with seafood, salads, and creamy soft cheeses, making it an excellent option for any occasion.

Tasting Notes

Sourced entirely from vineyards located in Marlborough’s spectacular Awatere Valley, this vibrant wine displays aromas of passionfruit and citrus zest with notes of fresh herbs and green pepper. The concentrated palate is layered with flavours of sweet tropical fruit, bright lemon and lime, and crunchy green apple. With a zesty minerality, this wine leads to a pure, lively, and focused dry finish that has both freshness and length.

About the Winery

Tohu

Tohu is the first wine business owned by the Māori in New Zealand. Since its establishment in 1998, the winery has focused on producing and developing single vineyards in its estates. It did so on the premier and renowned grape-growing areas and regions of the country. The tūpuna, or ancestors of the current owners of Tohu, were nothing more than a group of fishermen, planters, farmers, and providores. However, they were creative, astute, and determined in whatever they did. It was what allowed them to set up and run the winery.

The owners and workers of Tohu have the aim and purpose of upholding their ancestors’ legacy. They wish to pay their tributes to their forefathers by enhancing and improving the resources passed down generation after generation. Every wine created and distributed by the winery remain true to their deeply-held and respected values. Their principles and ideals lie in guardianship, kindness, or excellence, or as they call kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, and rangatiratanga.

Each wine bottle developed by Tohu carries and comes with its distinctive and unique logo, originally stemming from a koru design or pattern. For Māori, it represents the natural world along with life and growth. Thus, the logo symbolises the winery’s growth. It tells the tale of the journey of all the people associated with it. Additionally, the koru depicts Tohu’s long-term goals and inspirations of international outreach.

The viticulture and winemaking processes at Tohu ensue with the philosophy of producing the best. The winery targets the development of solely those beverages that can capture and deliver the flavours of their unique environment. They work to create wines that can uphold the concepts of protection and respect for the land and soil. Thus, Tohu takes immense care of its vineyards and cellars, ensuring the preservation of the natural aspects.
