Product Notes

Weingut Selbach-Oster's Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Trocken is a true expression of the Mosel region's unique terroir. The wine has a bright pale yellow color and a vibrant aroma with floral and citrus notes. Its taste is clean and refreshing, with a crisp acidity that balances the residual sugar, making it a dry wine despite being a Spätlese. The terroir-driven intensity of this Riesling stems from the volcanic slate soil of the vineyard, which imparts a mineral character to the wine. This wine is perfect for pairing with seafood, spicy dishes, and acidic dishes, or simply sipping on its own, showcasing the best of Mosel's winemaking tradition.

Tasting Notes

Undoubtedly one of the most respected growers, the estate is situated on the River Mosel side near to Bernkastel, Wonderfully fresh and floral Riesling with perfect balance between grapey fruit, with citrus and blossom notes and good long farewell.

About the Winery

Weingut Selbach-Oster

Weingut Selbach – Oster is a family-owned winery located in one of the premium wine-producing regions of Germany, Moselle. With a 400-year old history, the family has been producing exceptional quality Reisling wines in this region, right from the 18th century onwards. Currently, Barbara and Johannes Selback take care of the winery and its affairs.

Moselle is known for its unique terroirs and beautiful climate. The Celts and Romans had already produced wines in this region over 2000 years ago. Situated on windy and hilly landscapes, this place is the oldest wine-producing area in Germany and the steepest vine-growing slope in the world. The micro-climate of this place,  coupled with the slate soils, helps produce Riesling grapes with a high degree of elegance and minerality.

Located right in the heart of middle Moselle, the vineyards cover an area of 24 hectares, which are planted with ancient and heritage-rich Riesling vines. You can locate these vines on the slopes of Zeltingen, Wehlen, Graach and Bernkastel.

The vineyards face north and are very steep. Since the vines are planted amidst dense woods, they are well protected from harsh climatic conditions. The slate soils do a good job of absorbing the heat during the day and storing it well, so that it can be transferred to the vines at night. Due to the exceptional climate and terroir quality, grapes are harvested late naturally. So, the wines produced in this region are deep, aromatic and less alcohol content.

The Riesling grapes produced here are of utmost elegance, because the stony and barren slate soils help the roots penetrate many meters deep into the ground. Since the roots are naturally nourished with water, minerals and all the required nutrients, the wines of this label have unique minerality characteristics in them. Wine lovers attribute the charm and finesse of these wines to the excellent quality of terroirs found in Moselle.
