Tasting Note

Bright dark red. On the nose striking cassis underlined with cedar and a fresh ripe fruit character. On the palate the freshness carries through with a sprightly lingering finish.

Product Notes

Vergelegen Estate Premium Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot is a luxurious blend of two of the most popular red grape varieties. This South African wine is carefully crafted to produce a harmonious balance of blackberry, cassis and plum flavours from the Cabernet Sauvignon, and the soft, velvet tannins and fruity aromas from the Merlot. The vineyards of Vergelegen Estate are situated in the picturesque Helderberg region, which offers a perfect terroir for cultivating these two varieties alongside each other. This premium wine has a deep, rich colour and a complex bouquet of spice, vanilla and chocolate with a long, smooth finish. Perfect for pairing with red meat dishes or savoured on its own, Vergelegen Estate Premium Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot is a wine that truly epitomises South Africa's unique wine-making heritage.

About the Winery

Vergelegen Estate

Located in South Africa’s Western Cape Province, the Vergelegen Wine Estate has a rich history that dates back to 1700. The Governor of the Cape Province, Williem Adriaan van der Stel, established this estate during that time. By 1798, the Thieunissen family acquired this estate, and started planting many vines here. The family was focused on making wines from here, when the deadly phylloxera virus affected the vines during the 19th century. The wine production, growth of vines and everything else came to a standstill then.
