Tasting Note

Our pale pink 1682 Pinot Noir Cap Classique is fresh with fruity aromas of raspberry jelly, wild strawberry sorbet, red apple skin and toasted brioche. The wine has a very fine mousse that lifts the raspberry-like aromas and is balanced well with a creamy texture and bright acidity with a lingering dry finish. Enjoy in its youth or cellar for 3 to 5 years to promote a more savoury flavour development.

Steenberg 1682 Pinot Noir Brut Méthode Cap Classique is a sparkling wine that's sure to impress. Made with Pinot Noir grapes from a single vineyard, it has a beautifully delicate pink hue and fine, persistent bubbles. On the nose, there are lovely aromas of strawberries, raspberries, and cherries, as well as a hint of brioche from the 36 months it spent on the lees. On the palate, the wine is dry with a lively acidity and flavors of red fruit, along with some spice and nuttiness. It's a well-balanced and elegant wine that's perfect for celebrating any special occasion.

About the Winery

Steenberg

Simon van der Stel granted Catharina Michelse's request in 1682 for a plot of land near the Ou Kaapse Weg by leasing her 25 Morgen. This is how the illustrious progenitor came into control of what is today known as Steenberg. Frederik Russouw purchased the land in 1695 and erected the U-shaped residence. From 1765 through 1801, Nicolaas and his wife owned the property. Daniel purchased the property after Nicolaas' death in 1802, and Johannes Adriaan Louw of Fisantekraal afterwards purchased it. Nicolaas Louw, the son of Johannes Adriaan, had a deep love for Steenberg. When he passed away in 1976, his three children shared in the property's inheritance because he entered farming right out of school. The Louw family still owned Steenberg up until 1990, when Johannesburg Consolidated Investments bought it and transformed it into the magnificent hotel and winery it is today.
