Product Notes

Anthonij Rupert Optima is a classic Bordeaux style blend made from the finest grapes sourced from the Anthonij Rupert Estate in South Africa's Franschhoek Valley. This wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, contributing to its complex layers of flavours and aromas. The blend is dominated by Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, and it boasts a deep, ruby colour with a rich and elegant palate of dark fruit, subtle oak, and a hint of spice. Anthonij Rupert Optima is the perfect addition to any wine collector's cellar, offering the perfect balance of power and finesse that's sure to impress even the most discerning palate.

Tasting Notes

Seductive interplay of a melange of dark fruits and spice on the nose. The seduction continues in the mouth: cassis, blueberry, violet, touches of cedar, cocoa and tobacco leaf. The palate is soft and spicy with a velvety texture and powdery fine tannins. It is simultaneously rich, rounded and refined, softly appealing and structured from sympathetic oaking which is harmoniously integrated. Rewarding and long on the finish.

About the Winery

Anthonij Rupert

Anthonij Rupert is a famous South African winery established on the L’Ormarins farm in the town of Franschhoek. Originally, Anthonij Rupert owned the estate and the vineyards. However, after he passed away in 2001, Johann Rupert, his brother, took over the ownership rights in 2003. After the change of owners, the winery witnessed a surge in its potential and production.

Johann went into an intense pursuit of quality and excellence. He did so to honour his brother. He changed the estate’s name from L’Ormarins to Anthonij Rupert to depict his passion and ambition. It was all because his brother’s dream was to see the region of the Cape produce and distribute world-class and high standard wines. Johann constructed and incorporated various state-of-the-art technological advancements and winemaking facilities into the winery. He implemented modern techniques and practices to enrich the soil of the vineyards and the quality of the produced wines.

Overall, the vineyards of Anthonij Rupert get blessed with beneficial factors. The soil comprises granite and sandstone. They provide the nutrients necessary for the growth and development of the grapevines. The undulating curves of the hillside allow the area to become warm and cold. The place also experiences a few windy spots. The workers and staff at the vineyards practice and implement organic and sustainable methods of viticulture. They do so to ensure that the land and its characteristics do not get affected negatively. It can be due to the use of chemicals and synthetic fertilisers.

The estate and land of Anthonij Rupert get the perfect amount of sunshine and rainfall per year. It helps to enhance the quality of the grown grapevines and the produced wines. For that reason, the drinks of the winery are of the highest standard. They are precisely like what the late Anthonij Rupert desired.
