Tasting Note

Grown in the cool Carneros conditions that maintain excellent balance between fruit characters and acidity in grapes. We ferment and age this wine in French oak barrels, and leave it on the yeast lees for months to enhance texture and complexity. Floral aromas mingle with fresh citrus, orange blossom, and white peach characters, and the palate is weighty yet balanced, with a mouth-coating texture and a clean, mineral finish.

Product Notes

Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley is a rich and elegant wine that captures the essence of California's premium wine region. This Chardonnay features a pale straw color, and on the nose, it exhibits aromas of apple, pear, and lemon zest. The palate is vivacious, with bright acidity and flavors of tropical fruits, peach, and honey. The oak influence is subtle yet well-balanced, adding a creamy texture with hints of vanilla and spice. With a long and refreshing finish, this wine is a perfect companion to grilled seafood, roasted chicken, or pasta dishes with a creamy sauce. Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley is a benchmark for Chardonnay in California.

About the Winery

Cakebread Cellars

While taking pictures for Nathan Chroman's "Treasury of American Wines" in 1972, Jack and Dolores Cakebread made an informal approach to purchasing the Rutherford Sturdivant Ranch. The Sturdivant family accepted their invitation, and shortly after, the first Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc plant was planted on AXR1 rootstock. The first winery was constructed next to a pond a year later, and Cakebread Cellars produced its first vintage, a 1973 Chardonnay. Jack Cakebread bought a nearby 12-acre property in 1982 and planted Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc there. The 40th anniversary of Cakebread Cellars was commemorated in 2013. Being the fourth winemaker in the history of Cakebread Cellars, Stephanie Jacobs finally took over as head winemaker in 2017.
