Product Notes

Casa Montes Ampakama Malbec is an exquisite wine produced in the Andean region of Argentina. The crisp taste and rich aroma is made from the finest Malbec grapes, handpicked and aged for 12 months in new oak barrels. The deep ruby-red color and bold flavor profile boasts of dark fruits such as blackberries, raspberries and plums, with hints of vanilla and chocolate aromas. The tannins are well-balanced, providing a smooth and velvety finish. It is best enjoyed alongside red meats, stews and bold cheeses. Casa Montes Ampakama Malbec truly captures the essence of the diverse terroirs and unique climate of the Andean region, making it a must-try for wine enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes

The wine is presented with a bright, medium intensity red board, its aromas reminiscent of fresh red fruits given by the youth of this wine. On the palate it is seductive, with firm but friendly tannins.

About the Winery

Casa Montes

The founder of Casa Montes is an Andalusian immigrant called Don Francisco Montes. Casa Montes was set up in San Juan province in 1992. This was the start of the pioneering family trait. Casa Montes is in Tulum valley at the San Juan river banks. It is 700m above sea level. The annual temperature in the area is about 17 degrees Celsius on average. As for the annual rainfall, it is less than 200mm. The soils are alluvial.

Casa Montes has a privileged location and lies on 160 hectares of vineyards managed under a trellis system. These are irrigated using the Andes Mountain range meltwater. The water is dammed to make it easy to distribute using pressurised irrigation. The reservoir holds 35 million litres and is framed strategically by natural carob trees.

The ideal conditions in the area allow Casa Montes to achieve proper and healthy maturation of a variety of grapes. Chardonnay and Viognier happen to be the popular grape varieties in the area. There are reds like Tannat, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. To complement their agricultural strength, there is a technologically advanced winery. The capacity is over 3 million litres. These can be held with stainless steel tanks. There is also a fully automated temperature control and a pump system that allows all processes to be controlled. This leads to wine diversity.

Casa Montes brings the tradition and nobility of the wine-producing family. In the town where the estate lies in Tulum valley, there is a native forest that remains untouched. This is home to over 40 carob tree species, making the area unique.

The wines bottled at Casa Montes are made using their grapes, the vineyard is managed using the trellis system, and the python Gordon system is used for pruning. Here, the older vines were planted in 1994, while the new ones are from 1997. Harvesting is done both manually and mechanically. In the harvest season, the estate hires 120 people to ensure everything is done right.
