Product Notes

Chanin Wine Co. Los Alamos Pinot Noir is a red wine made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Los Alamos region of California. This exquisite wine features a bright red color and intense aromas of raspberry, cherry, and spice. On the palate, it delivers smooth and balanced flavors of dark berry fruit, tangy acidity, and velvety tannins. This wine is aged in French oak barrels for 11 months, which enhances its flavors and adds a hint of oak and vanilla. With its elegant and complex taste, Chanin Wine Co. Los Alamos Pinot Noir is a perfect accompaniment to seafood dishes, roasted vegetables, and grilled meats.

Tasting Notes

Leading off the Pinot Noirs, the 2020 Los Alamos Vineyard Pinot Noir saw 15% stems and spent 15 months in just 15% new French oak. Its translucent ruby hue is followed by a solid perfume of spiced red fruits, flowers, peppery herbs, and flowers. Beautiful on the palate as well, it's medium-bodied, has a pure, seamless mouthfeel, flawless balance, and a great finish. This is a stunningly ethereal, elegant expression of Pinot Noir to drink over the coming decade.

About the Winery

Chanin Wine Co.

Chanin Wine Co. is run by Gavin Chanin, who featured in Forbes’ “30 under 30” under the Food and Wine Category and as a “Winemaker to watch” in the San Francisco Chronicle. The company focuses on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties of grapes grown in Santa Barbara County, the perfect ground to produce the Burgundian grape varieties. The wines are made from grapes in one vineyard, which allows them to create balanced wines with low alcohol levels. The company focuses more on producing an authentic wine experience than on commercial gains. It keeps away from all winemaking additives, excess alcohol and modern wine filtering machines.

Some of the creations of Gavin Chanin and his Chanin Wine Co. include:

2017 ‘Los Alamos Vineyard’ Pinot Noir: With 80% destemming and 20% French oak, the wine has notes of rose petals and spring flowers. It also has hints of cherry and sweet strawberry. It provides a soft, medium-bodied drink with a perfect balance, fine tannins and a beautiful finish. The wine is highly rated by both enthusiasts and critics. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and the magazine Wine Enthusiast awarded the drink with 93 points.

2017 ‘Bien Nacido Vineyard’ Pinot Noir: The wine has been named in remembrance of the company’s collaboration with the Bien Nacido Vineyard in 2008. The wine contains stems and French oak in a 65-35 ratio. It is slightly darker than the Los Alamos Vineyard and is translucent. With a complex bouquet of black cherries, leather, earth and sappy herbs, the wine is a rich, concentrate and medium-bodied drink and is perfectly balanced. Renowned wine critic Jeb Dunnuck has awarded 95 points to the wine. The magazine Wine Enthusiast has awarded 92 points to the drink.

2018 ‘Los Alamos Vineyard’ Chardonnay: The wine is named after the Los Alamos Vineyard from which the company purchased one ton of Chardonnay when it started operations in 2007. The wine exhibits a golden hue and a bouquet of honeysuckle, almond paste, stone fruits and toasted bread. With a beautiful texture and a seamless palate, the wine is worth the money.
