About Calera
Calera was founded in 1975 by Josh Jensen in California’s Gabilan Mountains on the Central Coast. Inspired by Burgundy’s limestone-rich vineyards, Jensen sought to prove that California could produce world-class, terroir-driven Pinot Noir. Over the past four decades, Calera has become internationally respected for elegant, complex wines that showcase the Central Coast terroir.
The winery focuses primarily on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with 85 estate vineyard acres on Mt. Harlan. Its flagship wines include the Central Coast Pinot Noir and Central Coast Chardonnay, positioned in the luxury wine segment. Calera’s brand identity is built around being a pioneering, refined and highly regarded producer that helped establish both Pinot Noir and the Central Coast as major forces in New World wine.
The current winemaker is Mike Waller. Calera aims to strengthen awareness of the Central Coast AVA and Josh Jensen’s legacy while expanding premium on-premise placements in key markets. The winery competes with respected California producers such as Talbott, Talley, Siduri, Landmark Vineyards and Mer Soleil Silver.
