About Fairfields

There is a winery named Fairfield that is situated in the Waipara Valley of New Zealand. In 1989, the then David and Sue Teece saw this beautiful place that they believed would produce good wines. The idea of Teece was to develop a sustainable vineyard, which would produce good wine and safeguard the environment at the same time.

Since the establishment of Fairfield Winery, it has had different owners through the years. During the year 2001, the winery got new owners, the Marris family that ensures compliance with the Teece's philosophy of manufacturing superior products using natural ingredients. In spite of undergoing a major reorganisation, success still follows Fairfileds's way now that the Marris family still practices traditional winemaking and a modern approach of using innovative equipment in the vineyard and the winery.

Fairfields Vineyard and Winery follows environmentally conscious principles as it pertains to every step of the vine growing and making processes. Natural fertilisers are used, and the packaging is kept at a minimum to minimise waste and emissions during the production of the wine in the winery. They also employ lightweight bottles to minimize their carbon imprints.

Vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically with natural methods of pest and disease control and building healthy soil. Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) certification makes sure vineyard practices have some measure of environmental friendliness.

The winery is in Waipara Valley, where there is a peculiar micro-climate and soil conditions for the growth of grape cultivars. The vineyard covers 25 hectares and has several grape types such as Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. Vineyards are hand-tended, and the grapes are picked while in the finest stages of ripeness to produce wines that boast great flavour and aroma.

To conclude, Fairfields Winery is one of the successful family wine businesses based on sustainable winemaking practices in New Zealand. The winery is now certified as a sustainable vineyard after its commitment to adopting eco-friendly techniques and organic farming. They operate on 25 hectares in Waipara Valley that cultivate different grape types.
