Las Gundinas is without doubt the best vintage we have tasted to date. More ferrous and mineral this year, where normally it exudes more chocolate and earth, the 2018 has a certain transparency of red fruit that is very welcome and not dissimilar to Pinot Noir or perhaps Sangiovese (with less tannin). Almost elemental, with an earthy red fruit richness - strawberries, damson and redcurrants in particular, but a prominent dry irony spice and tobacco speaks to a high level of complexity and savouriness not often associated with this cuvee. Raúl Pérez Las Gundiñas La Vizcaina de Vinos is a prestigious wine from Spain's Castilla y León region. It is a unique blend of red grapes including Mencía and Alicante Bouschet alongside white grape varieties Godello and Doña Blanca. The result is an elegant and complex wine with nuanced flavors of raspberry, blackberry, and spice. The aromas are earthy with hints of leather, black pepper and dark fruit. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented using native yeasts resulting in a wine that is authentic to the terroir.
