About Reynella
Founded in 1838 by pioneering settler John Reynell, Reynella is widely regarded as the birthplace of South Australia's commercial wine industry and one of the oldest wine brands in Australia. Established in what is now Old Reynella on the northern edge of the McLaren Vale region, the estate played a pivotal role in the development of Australian viticulture. Reynell was also where a young Thomas Hardy gained his first experience in winemaking before founding his own legendary company. Today, the Reynella brand is owned by Hardys, part of the global wine company Vinarchy (formerly Accolade Wines), which continues to honour the winery's remarkable heritage.
Although the original vineyards have largely disappeared through urban expansion, Reynella remains closely associated with McLaren Vale and produces premium regional wines that showcase the area's warm Mediterranean climate. The range focuses primarily on classic McLaren Vale varieties, including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, crafted using traditional techniques such as open fermentation and century-old basket presses. These wines are known for their concentration, rich dark fruit, savoury spice and excellent ageing potential. Combining nearly two centuries of history with modern winemaking expertise, Reynella continues to represent one of Australia's most significant and enduring wine legacies
