About the Winery

Leefield Station

Leefield Station is a renowned winery in the Waihopai Valley area in the famous civil parish and the market town of Marlborough. It is one of the most reputed and oldest stations, with a history dating back to almost the 1840s. Established in 2019, the Leefield Station Winery is a popular wine estate that expresses the place’s culture and stories through its wines.

Leefield Station Winery was established by Emma Marris, the daughter of the owner and founder of Marisco Vineyards, Brent Marris. The winery’s construction and design focus primarily on reducing the environmental impact that may arise owing to the viticultural and vinification processes. Furthermore, the wine estate aims to operate on low power and generate minimal waste. Such consideration got put into Leefield Station Winery’s functioning and working due to the increased damage to nature these days. Thus, the winery aspired to work with state-of-the-art technology to achieve a sustainable, quality-driven, and efficient system of operations.

The plot and vineyards owned by Leefield Station Winery expand and extend over 2200 hectares of land. Out of them, 650 hectares remain dedicated to vine-growing, cultivation, and harvesting. The rest of the property gets used to manage a livestock farm. The parcels and terroirs of the winery possess mineral-rich soil, making the land suitable for the growth and development of healthy grapevines. It, in turn, allows the vines to bear and yield superior fruits having high sweetness and rich colour. On top of that, the excellent microclimate of the region promotes high-quality grape growth.

Leefield Station Winery primarily deals with and plants Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir. The winery implements a sustainable approach to its operations. It does so because it believes the natural qualities of the land determine the quality and standard of the produced wines.
