Made with the indigenous Mencía grape variety, this wine boasts an intense ruby-red color with aromas of fresh red berries, black cherries, and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a velvety texture and flavors of ripe fruit, earthy minerals, and a touch of smokiness. The wine has a long finish with well-integrated tannins adding to its depth and complexity. Perfectly pairs with grilled meats, hearty stews, and matured cheeses, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning wine enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes

Aromatic, cherry fruit, a touch savoury and earthy, and a gorgeous lightness of touch.

About the Winery

Telmo Rodriguez

Telmo Rodriguez is a Spanish wine label that has a 30-year old history. The first wines of this label were created in 1994 from the Garnacha grapes grown in the ancient town of Navarra in Sada. Though the group started with Garnacha varietals, they slowly started moving to other international varietals like Cabernet and Merlot in the next few years.  In the 1990s, the winemaking team at Telmo Rodriguez conducted a lot of research in the Arribes Del Duero region. As a result of this research, the experts founded a rare variety of grape varietal in this region – the Juan Garcia.

In the 1990s, this label wanted to make its name in the white wine industry, to establish that Spain had the ideal soil and climate conditions to grow rich, rare and amazing white grape varietals. They also acquired a few acres of vineyards in the La Axarquia mountains to produce the popular Moscatel wines. In 1999, the founders acquired their first vineyard in the not-so-popular town of Cebreros, in the Sierra de Gredos.

Telmo Rodriguez and Pablo Eguzkiza have been making wines for over 30 years. The partners-turned friends started off making wines in the Rioja Estate,  but they went to create a revolution in the Spanish winemaking field within a few years. Their main aim was to rediscover the old vine parcels in Spain and use them to make some of the best wines in the country. After Cebreros, the team went on to explore the areas of Do Valdeooras, Rueda, Malaga, Cigales, Alicante, Ribera del Duero, Toro and the original Rioja Estate.

Some of the popular wines of this region are:

  • Mountain Blanco Dry Moscatel – One of the most excellent white Moscatel wines grown in the prestigious vineyard of Andalusia, this is a pure and intense wine filled with a pleasant aroma.
  • Pegaso Granito Garnacha – Made from authentic Garnacha varietal, this wine is special because it is crafted using organic viticultural practices.
