Product Notes

Teusner The Independent Shiraz Mataro is a red wine produced in the Barossa Valley, Australia. The wine is a blend of Shiraz and Mataro grapes, both of which are some of the most popular grape varieties grown in the region. The grapes are hand-picked and the wine is aged in old French oak barrels for 8 months, which gives it a rich and complex aroma of dark berries, black cherries, and spicy oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with soft tannins and a long finish. This wine pairs well with grilled red meats, pasta with red sauce, and aged cheeses. It's an excellent wine to savor and enjoy with friends on a special occasion.

Tasting Notes

The wine is jam packed with Barossa Shiraz flavours....plums, black fruits and warm spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and 5 spice. There’s a touch of mid palate sweetness, some mocha and black olive and the soft tannins are integrated seamlessly through the mid palate. The subtle use of oak allows the rich dark fruit to take center stage. A wonderful fruit driven expression of Barossa Valley Shiraz and outstanding value too.

About the Winery

Teusner

Teusner Wines, the Australian wine brand, was established in the year 2001 by Kym Teusner and Mick Page. It would be surprising for you to know that the seed for this wine brand was sown when the duo heard a casual discussion in the local bar about the quality of the grapes grown in the high-quality Barossa wine area of Australia. The best fruits from the Barossa vineyards are used for making these vines. Therefore, at Teusner, ultimate respect is given to the local wine growers. Therefore, the wines created at Teusner reflect the wonderful terroirs of the Barossa region.

In the year 2002, Teusner released its first set of wine with 162 cases of the Joshua wine range. In the next two years, the brand also released other wines from Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz cultivated in selected lots in Barossa. The success and popularity of the Teusner wines are mainly due to the strong, interpersonal relationship that the owners share with the winegrowers.

In the year 2001, the brothers Kym Teusner and Mick Page paid a huge sum for safeguarding the low-yielding Grenache vines. Even today, the brothers pay a huge sum to the winegrowers to keep them happy and help them cultivate fruits of the highest quality. The fruits cultivated in Barossa and Eden Valleys are used to make Teusner wines.

Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, Chardonnay, Semillon, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, a few GSM blends (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blends) and Petit Syrah (also known as Durif) are some of the varietals used for making the wines under this label. Shiraz is the most used varietal, as close to 42% of the wines are made using this. At this company, a lot of importance is given to the term, commitment. According to Teusner’s own words, the most distinct thing about his wines was the commitment that his company shows to the people who support him.
