Tasting Note

This fills the senses with soaring notes of coffee, cigar box, thick black fruits, minerals, spice, currants - the whole sensory caboodle. Powerful on the palate yet somehow civilized (probably due to the bottle aging at the cellar) the Gemma is opaque with a rich, elegant and complex nose. The first impact gives both power and refinement, then the fruit appears followed by flavours of tar, cocoa beans, balsam and the classic liquorice.

Product Notes

Masciarelli Villa Gemma Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a medium-bodied red wine that is made from 100% Montepulciano grapes grown in the Abruzzo region of Italy. This wine is a tribute to Gianni Masciarelli's wife, Gemma, who was instrumental in helping him establish his winery. The wine is deep ruby red in color, with an intense aroma of blackberry, red fruits, and spices. On the palate, it reveals layers of flavors that include dark cherry, red currant, and hints of vanilla and cocoa. It has a lively acidity and moderately high tannins, making it a perfect pairing for rich pasta dishes, grilled meats, and aged cheeses. Overall, it is a well-balanced, harmonious wine that is complex and elegant.

About the Winery

Masciarelli

Established in 1981, Masciarelli originated from the entrepreneurial institution set up by Gianni Masciarelli. The winery’s history begins with the founder’s business ventures in the region at that time. Ever since he got invested in the line of vine growing and winemaking, three things have never left his side. They are his love for the land, his wife, and his family.
