By Farr Chardonnay is a world-renowned wine that hails from the picturesque Geelong region of Victoria, Australia. Crafted by the illustrious winemakers of By Farr, this wine is fermented with natural yeasts and aged in French oak barrels for 11 months, revealing a spectacular blend of depth and flavor. The aroma of this white wine is imbued with subtle scents of vanilla and lime zest that blend to create a texturally impressive mouthfeel. The wine's flavorsome palate is both rich and complex, offering a range of flavors from ripe peach and nectarine to a hint of savory hazelnut. Perfect with all white meats and seafood, By Farr Chardonnay remains an exemplar of Australian winemaking.
The trademark characteristics of the wine produced on our site are understated power and length with a mineral finish. The wine has a great fruit expression that is well integrated with French oak. The soil characteristics have come through in the style of wine we have today. The palate is fine but firm, with great acidity, texture and length. This wine is rich in flavour, yet very refined.
About the Winery
Located at about 100km from Melbourne, the Farr Wine Estate is one of the oldest wine-growing regions in the Moorabool Valley. The place is blessed with a continental climate and volcanic soil quality. Due to this, the grapes produced here of premium quality with intense flavour and rich colour. In 1994, the estate was purchased by Gary and Robyn Farr. Four years later, they purchased some more land.
In the year 2011, Nick and Cassie Farr purchased the final piece of the estate to increase the family’s total ownership to 130 acres of land. Though the family members have different ideas when it comes to winemaking, they don’t shy away from developing their own wine lines, with varying flavours and characteristics.
Out of the 130 acres, 36 acres are dedicated to growing vines and the remaining is used for grazing cattle. The grapes grown on these 36 acres include flavourful varietals such as Viognier, Chardonnay, Gamay, Shiraz and Pinot Noir. Due to the different winemaking ideas, there are two ranges of wines that are released under this label; By Farr from Gary and Farr Rising by Nick. Both these ranges have received positive feedback from across the globe.
Today, Nick is mostly responsible for the winemaking and all the viticultural practices undertaken in the estate, but under the watchful eyes of his father, Gary. Since both father & son had learnt the tricks and trade of the business from international wineries, they share a common passion for introducing methods to winemaking, but they agree to disagree with each other. The Farr Rising range of wines, launched by Nick, was first released in Bannockburn’s Innisfail Vineyards.
All over the By Farr wine estate, you will notice six different soil qualities. The mineral-rich content of the soil and microclimate prevailing here make this estate on one of the best sources of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
