Product Notes

Dow's LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) is a premium fortified wine that delivers rich and complex flavors. It is made from grapes harvested from a single year (vintage) and aged in oak barrels for a minimum of four years before bottling. This process results in a wine that is ready to drink upon release and can also be cellared for further aging. The Dow's LBV has a deep ruby color and aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and chocolate. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a smooth and velvety texture and flavors of ripe fruits, spices, and a hint of oak. The balanced acidity and tannins give this wine a lingering finish that is both elegant and satisfying. Overall, Dow's LBV is a perfect choice for those who appreciate a premium fortified wine that can be enjoyed now or aged for future consumption.

Tasting Notes

Deep purple with an opaque centre. Fresh, exuberant aromas of red and black fruits, mint and liquorice preface a broad palate of fruits of the forest with undertones of schist and firm, yet supple tannins. The well-toned structure combines sumptuous flavours with grip, ending with a long spicy finish.

About the Winery

Dow's

Dow’s has had the reputation of Upper Douro Valley’s finest Port for over two centuries. Building on the preceding Silva family and Dow family’s legacies, the current owners of Dow, the Symington family, bring with their ownership the experience of having worked in Dow’s vineyards at Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira and the Quinta dom Bomfin. The Symington family brings the legacy of creating intense and tannic concentrated wines with the DOW wines, which age elegantly and are scented with mint and violet aromas.

The company produces its wines from the Bomfim, Senhora da Ribeira, Cerdiera and Santinho vineyards. Bomfim is considered one of the finest vineyards in Douro Valley and is the heart of Dow’s Ports. The vineyard is the main structure of Dow’s Vintages since its acquisition in 1896. Some of the most commonly used wine-making grape varieties like Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional.

Senhora da Ribeira is considered one of Douro’s classic River Quintas and most beautiful vineyards. The wines from Senhora da Ribeira are among the finest in the Douro and complement the wines from Bomfim in the composition of the Dow’s classic Vintage Ports.

The Cerdiera vineyard produces outstanding fruit that is similar to the Dow’s vineyard in style. The Santinho vineyard is a property of the Symington family, like the Cerdiera vineyard. The grapes from these vineyards are vinified at the winery at Senhora da Ribeira, producing some of the very best Dow’s Ports.

The Dow’s Vintage Ports come with a fine tannic structure enhanced by bitter chocolate and spicy black pepper flavors. When the Port’s are young, the aroma is of violets which matures into cinnamon and develop an elegance with maturity. Dow’s Vintage Ports’ style is suitable in years when the grapes are ripe, as the Dow’s Ports come with a characteristic balance of richness and dryness, while other Ports tend to oversweet.

Apart from the Vintage Port, Dow’s Ports boasts a fine line of Ports, including Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port, Senhora da Riberia Vintage Port, Late Bottled Vintage Aged Tawny Ports, Nirvana Reserve and Ruby Ports.
