About Altesino
Altesino is a celebrated winery in the heart of Tuscany’s Brunello di Montalcino region, set around the elegant 14th-century Palazzo Altesi in the rolling hills just east of Montalcino. Founded in the early 1970s, Altesino quickly became a pioneer in the area—introducing the concept of a single-vineyard “Cru” with its Montosoli Brunello in 1975, and later being the first to use small French oak barriques for aging, lending greater finesse and approachability to the wines.
In 2002, the estate was acquired by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, who has preserved its traditions while embracing sustainability, adding underground cellars, solar power, and water recycling systems. The vineyards cover around 50 hectares across six prized plots, with Sangiovese at the core alongside small plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and white varieties.
Altesino’s range is led by its elegant, age-worthy Brunello di Montalcino and the iconic Montosoli Cru, known for its power and refinement. Other wines include the approachable Rosso di Montalcino, the modern-styled Alte d’Altesi, fresh whites under the Toscana IGT label, and a traditional Vin Santo. Today, Altesino stands as a benchmark producer, blending history, innovation, and terroir to craft some of Tuscany’s most admired wines.
