About Bodega Bouza
Bodega Bouza is a boutique family-owned winery with 35 hectares of vineyards spread across four distinct sites. Best known for its outstanding Tannat — Uruguay’s flagship variety — the estate also cultivates Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Tempranillo, Riesling and Albariño, becoming the first producer in the country to plant Albariño commercially. Founded in 2000 by Juan and Elisa Bouza on the site of a restored 1940s winery, the estate has quickly established itself as one of Uruguay’s most highly regarded and critically acclaimed producers, particularly for its single-vineyard Tannat wines.
Two vineyards located close to the winery supply most of the Albariño, Chardonnay, Merlot and Tannat fruit, while the newer Pan de Azúcar and Las Espinas vineyards in the cooler eastern part of the country focus on Riesling and Pinot Noir, alongside smaller plantings of other varieties. Wines from these coastal-influenced sites have attracted considerable attention for their freshness, vibrant acidity and intensely expressive fruit character.
