Tasting Note

This is a wine of great finesse yet impressive power, tight structure yet generosity of flavour. Mature vines grown on the rich gravelly loam soils on the north facing slopes of the Willyabrup Valley. The fruit is 100% Gin-Gin clone and all of the grapes are hand picked, hand sorted and barrel fermented. Ripe melony, peachy characters yet noticeable restraint and subtlety. An unctuous mouth-feel yet with taut, fine acidity on the finish. It will start to be at its best about 3 years from release and will continue to mature gracefully for another 10 years. An ideal accompaniment to seafood and white meat dishes. Ideal cellaring temperature is a constant 14-16 degrees celsius.

About the Winery

Like many of Margaret River’s early winemaking pioneers, Pierro founder Michael Peterkin originally trained as a medical doctor before pursuing his true passion for wine. During the 1970s he completed the prestigious Oenology program at Roseworthy College and gained valuable experience at several leading Western Australian wineries, including Cullen, where he produced Australia’s first Semillon–Sauvignon Blanc blend. In 1980, Peterkin established Pierro and successfully balanced life as a country doctor with building one of Margaret River’s most respected boutique wineries, finally retiring from medicine in 2020 at the age of 72.
