It is made from a blend of local indigenous grape varieties, including Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. The grapes are grown in the mineral-rich volcanic soils of Mount Etna, which give the wine its distinctive character and complexity.

The Calderara Sottana vineyard is located at an elevation of 600-700m above sea level, with the vines ranging in age from 60 to 100 years old. This wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in large oak casks, resulting in a refined wine with a beautiful balance of fruit and acidity. It is an ideal pairing for grilled meats, spicy foods, and hard cheeses. Located near Mount Etna, Tenuta delle Terre Nere is one of the best wine producers in Italy. The winery was a project and endeavour of Marco De Grazia. Marco had always remained involved in the world of wines since his early years. Additionally, he served as the driving force that convinced the Italian wine industry of the significance of establishing Contrada in their producing areas.
