About the Winery

Hambledon Vineyard

Hambledon Vineyard, nestled in the heart of Hampshire’s South Downs, is widely regarded as the birthplace of English wine. Originally founded in 1952 by Major General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones, it was England’s first commercial vineyard. After a period of decline, it was revived in 1999 by Ian Kellett, who replanted classic Champagne grape varieties—Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier—on the estate’s chalk-rich slopes. In 2023, Hambledon entered a new chapter when it was acquired in a joint venture by Berry Bros. & Rudd and Symington Family Estates, helping expand its vineyard area to around 200 acres.
